The eligibility for this Test is at least 55% marks in Master's Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC in Computer Science, Electronics and Humanities etc. For Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Persons with disability (PWD) category the eligibility is at least 50% marks in Master's degree or equivalent examinations.
Candidates who have passed out or the candidates who are in the last semester of Master's degree and whose result is awaited may also apply for the Test. The condition is that such candidates must complete their P.G. degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required criteria. Provisional admission will be given and candidate shall be considered eligible for award of JRF/Lectureship eligibility after they have passed their Master's degree examination or equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% marks in case of SC/ST/PWD). Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation & related subject only.
It is mandatory for the candidates who come under SC/OBC/ST have to submit attested copy of the category Certificate. In case of any ineligibility being detected by the Commission, their admission will be canceled and they will be liable for legal action.
NET/JRF EXAMINATION SCHEDULE:
UGC conducts NET twice a year, i.e., in the months of June and December. The notifications announcing the June and December examinations are published in the months of March and September respectively in the Employment News.
SCHEME AND DATE OF TEST:
The Test is held on last Sunday of June and December every year.
Paper-1-It consist 60 objective type questions of Reasoning, Comprehension, Divergent Thinking, Teaching Aptitude, Research Methodology and general awareness. Each question is of two marks each and candidate will have to give answers of only 50 questions out of 60. In case, candidate attempt more than fifty questions then the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate would be considered.
1st Paper is Compulsory & qualifying in nature only.
Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective questions related to the optional subject selected by the candidate. Each question is of 2 marks. All questions of this paper are compulsory.
Paper-III-It consist of 75 questions related to the subject selected by the candidate. Each question is of 2 marks. All questions of this paper are compulsory.
The candidates have to mark answers on Optical Mark Reader (OMR) sheet. In the last week of May and November, UGC website (www.ugcnetonline.in or www.ugc.ac.in) upload the instructions how to fill OMR sheet.
List of Optional 2nd and 3rd Paper :
*The candidates with Master's Degree in Geography (with specialization in Population Studies) or Mathematics/Statistics are also eligible to appear in the subject Population Studies (Code 15).
**The candidates with Master's Degree in Humanities (including languages) and Social Sciences are eligible to appear in the subject Women Studies (Code 74).
